The South Korean beverage producer Samyang Packaging has entrusted its aseptic operations to Krones technology – and ordered not just one but two complete lines.
    • Samyang Packaging, with production headquarters in Seoul, is the largest PET bottler in the South Korean market and fills various aseptic products ranging from water to teas and milk-based beverages.

Krones supplied Samyang Packaging with its first Contiform blow molder back in 2008, followed by two more of the same type in 2013. In 2018, Krones then equipped the South Korean beverage manufacturer with a complete dry end –a labeler and packer, plus a palletizer and conveyors.

And in 2020, this successful collaboration led Samyang to order not one but two complete lines from Krones for the first time. The new lines are for beverages of the highest caliber such as teas, juices, and dairy beverages, which have to be produced and inspected under the most exacting conditions. Although the complete aseptic solutions for these beverages run at a low speed, they impress with their flexibility.

With the commissioning of the lines, Samyang Packaging has entrusted its entire aseptic operations to technology from Krones – and has praised the harmonious and successful cooperation: "We are very satisfied with how reliably the project has progressed under the leadership of Dennis Baumann."

Project: Two complete aseptic lines, each with a capacity of 12,000 PET bottles per hour
    Client: Samyang Packaging
    Location: Seoul, South Korea
    Commissioning: June 2021
    Scope:

Each of the two identical turnkey aseptic lines includes:

    Exceptional commitment

In June 2021, an expert from Thailand was to travel to Samyang for the commissioning and validation of the two complete aseptic lines. However, when he was refused permission to travel, two Krones aseptic experts – Li Kun (Oli) and Qu Juan-Juan (Shirley) –readily agreed to travel from Taicang, China, to the South Korean capital. In addition to Oli and Shirley, service team members from Italy, Pakistan, Indonesia, and South Korea also worked on the large project.

After a delay of two weeks, the team was finally able to get started. Full of energy and eager to make up the lost time, the team did the commissioning and validation of the machines simultaneously. The international team cooperated closely and supported each other. Thus, within three months, they surpassed their common goal: Both aseptic lines had been fully commissioned and validated –ahead of schedule, no less.

    Aseptic in Asia

The Asian beverage culture includes a wide range of products, from various yogurt drinks to coffee drinks to fancy juices and teas. While you might generally encounter coffee and green or black teas with a splash of milk at breakfast tables in Europe, the Asian beverage market features exotic flavors such as cocoa-nib or buckwheat tea.

Because the demand for these drinks is increasing, aseptic filling is particularly important in the Asian region: these beverages require special handling during production prevent bacterial growth. Krones' aseptic technology ensures just that – the safe and hygienic production of sensitive beverages. And Samyang Packaging is now benefiting from this, too.
